Important Information Before Booking

Due to the excessive winter storm damage to many wharves and floats in both North Haven and Vinalhaven, you must check that there is a safe and secure place to dock and moor our boats BEFORE booking for the season. If you are a renter to the area, please check with the homeowner to see if there have been repairs or replacements completed. Unfortunately, because of the sheer volume of damage some places may not be functional by summer.

NEW in 2024

As of January 2024, Maine now requires anyone born after January 1999 (ages 12 through 25) to have a Maine Boating Certificate if operating a boat of more than 25Hp . We do not rent boats to anyone under 25 however if you are now 25 or have a child who is a secondary operator of any of our boats they will need to take this online course and send us a copy of the certificate once complete. Maine offers a temporary, 14-day certificate for $12.99 and a lifetime certificate for $34.95 Maine Wardens will be stopping folks this summer to check on this so please keep a copy with you! Rental Boats

Located in the iconic Fox Island Thorofare between North Haven and Vinalhaven, we serve both islands with quality rental boats. Cruise Penobscot Bay in a safe, reliable boat. Visit the inhabited islands of North Haven, Vinalhaven, and Islesboro, and check out the many quiet, wild-life-only inhabited islands.  Picnic, relax, and let us help you explore more!
All our boats have new or nearly new Yamaha motors. Our family boatyard is a Yamaha dealer and has qualified Yamaha mechanics on staff. All boats have chart plotters/GPS installed, they are intuitive, and most are touch screens, just turn it on and you can quickly follow the simple menu. Everything is at your fingertips to quickly and easily plan your route and set your course. (Adam will give you a quick course on how to use this before you leave) Each boat also includes USCG-approved gear: life jackets, flares, emergency kits, etc. All our boats are clean, well-maintained, safe, and reliable.
We are not able to deliver our rental boats to the mainland. Areas like Camden, Rockland, Castine, and Searsport, are as the crow flies not too far away however towing a boat or taking two captains to deliver is not a cost-effective business plan for us. We apologize for not being able to offer this service. (We can not deliver to ponds and lakes in the middle of the state of Maine. Yes, a lot of folks ask!)
Boats are for use on Penobscot Bay however, mooring of the boat should remain on North Haven unless previous arrangements with North Haven Rentals have been reached. Not all of our boats are suited for use or mooring in distant mainland areas.

We have a minimum 5-day rental for boats, our bike rentals are by the day for summer 2024

Refundable cancellations must be two weeks prior to your start date. We can not refund or change because of inclement weather or illness. A charge of 50% of the day rate for the boat/bike you originally booked will be added if you change dates or boats within two weeks of the start date.

Perhaps it’s a bit too intimidating to take out a boat by yourself or you are just looking for a one day experince, if so please go to our contacts page to read about our friends who can offer you another kind of adventure. Our friend Oakley Jackson is available as a Licensed Captain for hire. He has his own classic lobster boat for hire or he could possibly be your Captain on one of our rental boats. Captain Harry, of Encore Private Charters is available for tours, sunset cruises or trips to the mainland in his 34’ Tiara. All contact and arrangments must be done directly with them. Tenders

Duff, Blathers, My Dear, Mudfog & Koru

All of our tenders are 10ft Walker Bay fiberglass rowboats. One-piece, seamless hull that is lightweight and incredibly durable. The broad beam and hull styling assure a comfortable, stable ride. It can handle up to three people. This will get you out to the mooring or onto the beach without any issues. They come with oars and oarlocks, ready to go!
