Storm Damage
Due to the unusually excessive winter damage to many wharves and floats in both North Haven and Vinalhaven, you must check that there is a safe and secure place to dock and moor our boats BEFORE booking for the season. If you are a renter to the area, please check with the homeowner to see if there have been repairs or replacements completed. Unfortunately, because of the sheer volume of damage some places may not be functional by summer.
State Required Boat Safety & Education Course
As of January 2024, Maine now requires anyone born after January 1999 (ages 12 through 25) to have a Maine Boating Certificate if operating a boat of more than 25Hp . We do not rent boats to anyone under 25 however if you are now 25 or have a child who is a secondary operator of any of our boats they will need to take this online course and send us a copy of the certificate once complete. Maine offers a temporary, 14-day certificate for $12.99 and a lifetime certificate for $34.95 Maine Wardens will be stopping folks this summer to check on this so please keep a copy with you! Below is our most up-to-date schedule of rental availability. Use the drop-down menus in the calendar below to find all of our boat and bike availability.
Our booking is a two-part process first the section below where you pick out your boat and/or bikes, dates, extras, etc., and make the payment. Then please go to the Liability Waiver Rental Agreement page (<click on the bold words or find the link in the menu) fill out and submit. We absolutely need this Waiver before you can pick up your boat or bike.
There is a charge of $20.00 per day for additional operators. If you intend to have someone else in your party at the helm at any time during your rental please add that to the booking. We must have that information for our records.
If you are booking a SAME-DAY pick up please call or email us immediately so we know you are coming. Due to the limitations of our booking software, it won't send us a notice of booking until 24 hours after you make it.
Refundable cancellations must be two weeks prior to your start date. Sorry, we can not refund the processing fee. We can not refund or change because of inclement weather or illness.
A charge of 50% of the day rate for the boat/bike you originally booked will be added if you change dates or boats within two weeks of the start date.
Boats are for use on Penobscot Bay however, mooring of the boat should remain on North Haven unless previous arrangements with North Haven Rentals have been reached. Not all of our boats are suited for use or mooring in distant mainland areas.
We are not able to deliver our rental boats to the mainland. Areas like Camden, Rockland, Castine, and Searsport, while as the crow flies they are not too far away, towing a boat or taking two captains to deliver is not a cost-effective business plan for us. We apologize for not being able to offer this service.
Boats and bikes must be returned to us on the last day of your rental. Often, they are turning around to go out the next day. Please be considerate of this. You will be charged for 2 additional days of rental if the boat or bike is not returned by the final day of your booking. We do not pick up.
You will be financially responsible for any physical damage to our boats & bikes, motors, and provided equipment.
You must be 25 to rent any of our boats. If you were born after 1/1/1999 you must have a boating certificate from the State of Maine. Click HERE for link to Maine boating certificate website. This certificate is open to anyone over 12 if you are interested in expanding your knowledge but is now required by the State of Maine if you were born after 1/1/1999.

It’s recently come to our attention that while using Safari some folks have not been able to complete their transactions. This is a known issue with the booking software company. Unfortunately, their solution is to suggest changing to Chrome to use the software. Not entirely helpful but it is a work-around.

Rentals are from 10am to 5pm, pick up at Brown’s Boatyard during those hours the day your rental begins, not the night before your start date. Be sure to specify your preferred pick-up time in the booking form, and/or send us an email.
*Be aware that rentals will only be valid if all Rental Criteria are met, for more info on this check out our Rental Agreements. *Additional charges may apply and will be determined at the time of rental. See Rental Agreements for details. *There are no refunds due to inclement weather.
